18_Blanket for Detritus

Blanket for detritus is a distorted crocheted blanket resting on the detritus of the arboretum’s floor. It has vine like tendrils that wrap around the surrounding trees. In highlighting the bush floor; decomposing leaves, invertebrates, fungi, algae, bacteria, and the biochemistry that maintains soil nutrients; this artwork emphasises the importance of this ecosystem in supporting the overall health of the larger flora and fauna in which it is found.

Rachel Honnery has a Master of Fine Arts from the University of NSW. Her art practice is multi-disciplinary and engages dialogues about the future of landscapes, eco-systems, and her relationship to her auto immune disease
